Lake Tahoe Retreat Nevada Department of Education worked with Breakthrough Training to facilitate their annual Leadership Retreat. During the 2 Day Leadership program at Beach and Lodge Conference Center in the Lake View room attendees build stronger relationships with co-workers. Members practice ways to strengthen leadership skills in the workplace. Engaging team building activities are demonstrated to facilitate in-depth discussions on how to communicate effectively. Participants talk about best practices to improve teamwork with both internal and external customers. A significant amount of time is spent on best practices for workplace effective communication. One of the main goals of the training was to define core values and a mission statement to guide the Office of Student and School Supports department.

The 4 Communication Styles and how to best work with team members who have different styles and approaches is covered in detail. Learning to appreciate each communication style and how to use each to improve relationships is a central conversation throughout the seminar. The importance of clarifying messages and understanding instructions is practiced during the team communication activities. 

How to coach team members and give effective feedback is part of the seminar. Ways to destroy communication is also part of the conversation. This is essential to point out and juxtapose good and poor communication skills.

Each participant also engages in writing and setting their top 5 goals. The areas are: Development, Business, Health, Relationship and Recreational. Members chose a goal to process using the 8 Steps to Achieve Goals. The process includes a proven way to stay motivated, disciplined and determined to achieve goals with a defined pathway to success.
